Belem López-Ocampo works as Research Assistant, supporting the English as a School Subject project in Mexico. Belem is a bilingual elementary school teacher. She holds a BA in ELT from the University of Oaxaca and a post-graduate certificate on creative writing from the University of Toronto. For the last twenty years, Belem has taught Spanish and English to kindergarten and elementary school children in Mexico, the USA and Canada. She co-founded and directed BIBLOCA, the first non-profit multilingual children’s library in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Belem was the acting Director of BIBLOCA, from 2009 to 2017, when BIBLOCA was located in a low socio-economic status neighborhood in the city of Oaxaca. Belem is still honorary director of BIBLOCA, which is now part of the Faculty of Languages at the University of Oaxaca. Currently, Belem works at the Faculty of Languages at the University of Oaxaca, editing undergraduate students’ BA theses and assisting in different research projects. She also offers English and Spanish private tutoring to young children.
