Mrs Lizzie W Chiwaula
Research Fellow, Centre for Educational Research and Training, University of Malawi, Zomba, Malawi.
As well as contributing to the English as a School Subject project as Research Assistant, Lizzie W Chiwaula is a Research Fellow at the University of Malawi, Centre for Educational Research and Training (CERT) based at Chancellor College. She holds a Master’s Degree in International studies obtained from the Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies, Kobe University, Japan in 2008, and a Bachelor’s degree in Education with credit from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College in 1999. Before becoming a researcher, she was a secondary school teacher with the Ministry of Education in Malawi for 5 years.
As a researcher, her work has mainly focused on higher education, especially: the evaluation of skills development project in Malawi and access to higher education; basic education, especially in the areas of Early Grade Reading Assessment; Public expenditure review in education; School expenses and girls’ dropout; school grants; Monitoring Learning Achievements; Inclusive education; school attendance/absenteeism; Nutrition and Access to Primary Education; Child Friendly schooling; Learner Centered Education (LCE); evaluation of educational programs and policy issues; and recently on Covid 19 and education. She also has a special interest in teacher education and professional development. She was once a World Bank education consultant for the implementation supervision and technical review mission for Malawi Education Sector Improvement Project (MESIP) and an Education consultant for the World Bank on Equity and Quality Learning at Secondary education (EQUALS) project identification mission in 2017/18 in Malawi. She has also published in the International Journal of Education Development, Hiroshima University’s Journal of International Cooperation in Education, and the Malawi Journal of Educational Development.
